If you've never had window film installed before, you might be wondering what the process looks like. At Doctor Tint at the Beach, we make the entire experience easy, clean, and professional. Here's a step-by-step walkthrough of what to expect.
Step 1: Free Consultation & Estimate
It starts with a call or text to (302) 410-6366. We'll schedule a time to visit your home or business — whether you're in Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Bethany Beach, or anywhere on the Delmarva Peninsula.
During the consultation, we'll:
- Assess your windows (size, orientation, current glass type)
- Discuss your goals (heat reduction, privacy, UV protection, security)
- Recommend the best film options for your situation
- Provide a detailed, written estimate — no pressure, no hidden fees
Step 2: Film Selection
We carry premium films from 3M, SunTek, Hüper Optik, Avery Dennison, Solar Gard, Global Window Films, Solyx, and Rayno. Each brand offers different performance characteristics:
- 3M & SunTek: Top-tier solar control with ceramic technology
- Hüper Optik: Nano-ceramic films with exceptional clarity
- Avery Dennison & Solar Gard: Premium solar and safety films
- Global Window Films & Rayno: Industry-leading security films
- Solyx: Decorative and privacy films
Not sure which film is right for you? That's what the consultation is for. We'll help you choose based on your priorities, budget, and your property's specific needs.
Step 3: Installation Day
Most residential installations take 2–4 hours for an average home. Here's what happens:
Preparation
We protect your floors and furniture with drop cloths. Window sills and frames are cleaned thoroughly. The glass surface is prepped to ensure perfect film adhesion.
Application
Each piece of film is custom-cut to your windows using precision tools. The film is applied wet using a slip solution, then squeegeed to remove air bubbles and water. Edges are trimmed for a clean, seamless finish.
Cleanup
We clean up all materials, remove protective coverings, and leave your home exactly as we found it — just cooler and more comfortable.
Step 4: Curing Period
Window film takes 15–30 days to fully cure (dry). During this time, you may notice small water bubbles or a slightly hazy appearance. This is completely normal and will disappear as the film dries.
Don't clean the newly installed film for 30 days. Small water bubbles during curing are normal and will disappear on their own.
Step 5: Warranty Registration
After installation, we register your warranty with the film manufacturer. Residential installations typically receive a lifetime warranty, while commercial installations receive up to 18-year coverage. We handle all the paperwork for you.
How Long Does It Last?
Professional-grade window film typically lasts 20–30+ years with proper installation. With our manufacturer warranty, you're covered for the life of the film against defects, bubbling, peeling, and discoloration.
- Free consultation with no pressure and no hidden fees
- Most homes are done in 2–4 hours — minimal disruption
- Allow 15–30 days for curing; small bubbles are normal
- Lifetime warranty on residential, up to 18 years on commercial
